“The mystery of love between God and the mother”
“The birth of a child leads us to the threshold of the Christian mystery. It is through the husband but in the wife that is accomplished the mystery of love between God and the mother, for it is He who creates a new soul, the eternal repercussions of which are not foreign to the mission of the parents. The man, whose procreative act with its power to give life associates him closely with the divine action, becomes one with his spouse whose thoughts are focussed on the life that is coming. What moving grandeur, what an enthralling moment is that first cry of the newborn! What an array of natural and spiritual riches come with the arrival of a child! The husband become father, and the wife become mother, cannot as yet perceive the full dimensions of this event. God leaves us free to accept or refuse motherhood, but His unsuspected graces bring us to discover the marvelous gift of our liberty which is linked to God’s laws.”

The woman’s place
“When the man succumbs it is because somewhere there is a woman who is not sanctified and is not playing out her sanctifying role.”

The woman’s mission
“Whether she be a celibate, a religious, or married, woman has, above all, a mission of the spiritual order.”

“The woman’s exercising her influence in the home...”
“The woman’s exercising her influence in the home does not in any way diminish her role of inspirer, through her creativity, in the transformation of society. When the spouse and mother will be able to bring up her children and dedicate herself to their formation – something of irreplaceable value –, rich in her personal values, enlightened by her religious sentiment and her intellectual and spiritual psychology, she will be able to make her contribution there from where the calls come to her. Consequently, the man will be able to return again to his place, supported by a wife with a heart afire; the young will be warmly received into the home; the rate of unemployment will diminish; single-parent families will disappear; young families will be more stable; elderly people will be respected; there will be no seeking escape in drugs; life will resume its normal course and God will be better known and loved. The priesthood and religious life – always necessary – will more than ever be called for, for it is through the spiritual woman that society will be changed, and the Church will profit from this, filling its temples with happy people who will have returned to the path of salvation, thanks to Mary, Mother of the Church.”
